ATLANTA – (February 12, 2007) – Gina Lundberg, MD, Marietta resident and a cardiologist at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, has been named by Governor Sonny Perdue to Georgia’s Advisory Board of the Office of Women’s Health (OWH). Under the direction of the Department of Community Health (DCH), the OWH promotes and leads efforts to improve the health status and quality of life for women through education, research, policy development and coordination of women’s health programming.
“Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among women in the United States and Georgia has the sixth highest cardiovascular disease (CVD) rate in the nation,” says Dr. Lundberg. “I look forward to working with Governor Perdue and other members of the team to broaden awareness to prevention and treatment strategies targeted to women for diseases such as CVD that affect them differently.”
Dr. Lundberg, specializing in women’s cardiovascular care, serves as the director for Saint Joseph’s Heart Center for Women, a part of the hospital’s Women’s Health Initiative. She is president of the Center for Preventive Cardiovascular Care, PC and founder and director of The Women’s Heart Center and is a clinical associate professor of medicine at Emory University. Lundberg earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and a medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia.
The Heart Center for Women at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, scheduled to begin services in late spring, will offer prevention and education programs to individuals, community members and physicians through personal assessments, community events and continuing medical education programs. The first CME for medical professionals is set for May 5, 2007.
The Center also will offer women access to clinical trials aimed at prevention through the Saint Joseph’s Research Institute.
