Tips To A Healthy Voice

  1. Drink plenty of water – recommend at least six to eight 8 oz. glasses a day.
  2. Avoid caffeinated and alcoholic beverages which can cause dryness of the tissues of the larynx and can also aggravate reflux.
  3. Exercise regularly – recommended twenty to thirty minutes of cardiovascular exercise three to four times a week.
  4. Stop smoking and avoid exposure to second-hand smoke.  Free online smoking cessation
support is also available through the American Lung Association.
  5. Avoid screaming, yelling and other abusive types of voice use.
  6. Avoid chronic throat clearing and hard coughing.
  7. Talk to your physician about persistent reflux or heartburn symptoms.
  8. Singers should perform warm-up exercises before performances and allow for voice rest, when possible, between performances.
