By identifying the early signs of heart disease, clinicians can act on the results and reduce the likelihood of a significant event such as a heart attack. Saint Joseph's offers an array of heart and vascular screening and prevention programs for the community and is active in education outreach to patients and their families prior to, and after, surgery. Family members are thoroughly briefed on various procedures, available options and how to ensure the best possible recovery.

Are You at Risk for Cardiovascular Disease?
Saint Joseph’s monthly community screening program can help you find out. Symptoms for cardiovascular disease can happen quickly and many people don’t recognize they have a problem until it’s too late. Saint Joseph’s Hospital offers monthly preventative screenings on campus and at various local businesses. Results are immediate. Screenings range in price from $12 to $40. Combinations of screenings are also available for an additional fee. Pre-registration is required. Payment (cash or check) is required at the time of screening. Take Heart Cost: $25 per person
Includes total cholesterol, HDL (good) cholesterol, total cholesterol/HDL ratio and glucose (blood sugar) results from a simple finger stick, within 10 minutes. A risk factor assessment, weight with BMI (body mass index), and blood pressure assessment is also included. A one-to-one consultation with a registered nurse or registered dietitian is provided to discuss results.
Take Heart Plus Cost: $35 per person
Includes total cholesterol, HDL (good) cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol, total cholesterol/HDL ratio, triglycerides and glucose (blood sugar) from a simple finger stick, within 10 minutes. A risk factor assessment, weight with BMI 9body mass index), and blood pressure assessment is also included. A one-to-one consultation with a registered nurse or registered dietitian is provided to discuss results.
Strike Out Stroke Cost $40 per person
Includes total cholesterol, HDL (good) cholesterol, total cholesterol/HDL ratio and glucose (blood sugar) results from a simple finger stick, within 10 minutes. A risk factor assessment, weight with BMI (body mass index), and blood pressure assessment is also included. Carotid bruit assessment (listening to the arteries in the neck with a stethoscope for obstructed flow) along with a modified EKG (examining for a particular heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation) is provided. A one-to-one consultation with a registered nurse or registered dietitian is provided to discuss results.
Go With the Flow Cost $12 per person
A vascular screening targeting individuals who complain of leg cramps or have a strong family history of vascular disease. Individuals fill out a risk assessment questionnaire and measurement of the ankle-brachial index (ABI) is taken. This index is determined by comparing blood pressure reading in your arms to those in your ankles. A lower score could determine that there are problems with blood flow in your legs. Results are given on the spot.

Our Heart-Check program was designed with large health fairs in mind. This program gives a total cholesterol result and blood glucose (blood sugar) result in 3 minutes. The registration process involves written permission for us to finger-stick each person as well as a risk factor assessment. A brief consultation is provided for each person to explain the results. A copy of the results is given to each participant to share with their physician.
Heart Check extra Cost $15 per person
Our Heart-Chek x-tra program is also appropriate for large health fairs. This program gives a total cholesterol result, blood glucose (blood sugar) result, blood pressure, weight and body mass index (BMI) results in 5 minutes. The registration process involves written permission for us to finger-stick each person as well as a risk factor assessment. A brief consultation is provided for each person to explain the results. A copy of the results is given to each participant to share with their physician.
