Recognition of Quality Cardiac and Vascular Care

Excellence in heart and vascular care
In 2007, for the fifth consecutive year, Saint Joseph’s earned distinction for clinical cxcellence, remaining in the top 5 percent of hospitals in the country for overall clinical services.   Saint Joseph’s was also rated as “Best in Georgia” for cardiac, stroke and gastrointestinal and orthopaedic services by the nation’s leading health-care ratings company. These high marks place Saint Joseph's among the best cardiac programs in the country.

In addition, the Health Care Financing Administration chose Saint Joseph's as one of the first four hospitals in the U.S. to participate in a revolutionary program designed to reduce the costs of bypass surgery for Medicare beneficiaries, while improving the quality of care. Saint Joseph's was selected from among more than 200 hospitals for this pilot project due to its excellent patient care, experienced physicians and staff and high volume of successful bypass surgeries.

Saint Joseph's Hospital saved several millions of dollars through this program and decreased the patient's average length of stay. Mortality rates were well below the national average, and patient satisfaction was higher.

One of Solucient's Top 100 Hospitals
For the sixth year, Saint Joseph's Hospital was named in Modern Healthcare as one of the nation’s Top 100 Hospitals for performing angioplasty and heart bypass surgery as well as caring for patients with acute heart attacks and congestive heart failure. The list, published in October 2005, is based on Cardiovascular Benchmarks of Success, a study by Solucient, the nation’s largest health care database.

The study found that if all hospitals performed at the same level of Saint Joseph’s and the rest of the Top 100, an additional 4,000 patients could survive each year and nearly 1,400 patient complications would be avoided.
