About the Men's Health and Wellness Center
The Men’s Health and Wellness Center (MHWC) at Saint Joseph’s was established in 2007 by Dr. Nikhil L. Shah, D.O., MPH, Urologist and Director of Minimally Invasive and Robotic Urology at Saint Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta. The MHWC is a couples-based program of care to provide men and their partners with information, coping strategies and support.
The MHWC is a Georgia not-for-profit corporation whose mission is to educate and support better health practices among men and their loved ones by promoting lifestyle practices that assist in disease prevention and promote healthy living.
While women’s health programs have grown over the past two decades, men’s health has been largely ignored. In 1995, the Office of Men’s Health was established within the Department of Health and Human Services to explore men’s health issues. Many avenues exist to expand on gender-based public health issues. Of paramount importance is the need to increase awareness and invigorate interest in the unique health concerns of both men and women.
The MHWC is governed by a community-based Board of Directors with input for program development from two active advisory committees. This structure provides an opportunity for the most collaborative partnerships with both survivors and caregiver groups and the medical community.
